Our vision is to make the home work around you and not make you have to change the way you behave to become energy efficient.
Below are the four things we see as important.
Being smarter with energy means bringing the elements together: smart metering, micro generation and heating controls. This doesn’t mean that we need to build meters, solar panels and boiler systems. It does mean that we need to be able to collate the data, integrate the controls and make it all easily accessible to users. Our vision is to create the user interface for the Hybrid (energy) Home.
Making all this super technology accessible is what's been driving us from the very start. It is our core business. Yes, we need to collect the data, analyse it and build cost-effective, reliable and well-designed consumer products – but the objective is to engage people – you and I. Our primary skill is putting a human face on home energy technology. We do this using the complementary benefits of the web, mobile devices and in-home devices.
You're right – most people can't be bothered with this on a day-to-day basis! A large amount needs to be automated – and tailored to the individual home’s needs. However, just as with cars, people need to see what's happening, to be able to override, personalise and feel in control. The user interface remains core to automation.
We call all this the Hybrid Home – just like hybrid cars, the hybrid home blends traditional and novel ways of managing energy to maximise efficiency – and enjoyment. The Hybrid Home’s purpose is to let you enjoy greater comfort and convenience whilst worrying less about your energy bill.
