It is International Women in Engineering Day on Saturday 23rd June, to celebrate we would like to introduce just a couple of women we have working in our engineering teams to help inspire the next generation!
My name is Robyn Moates I’m a Hardware Design Engineer who is highly practical and logical. I like to learn new things and play with fun engineering toys!
I have worked at geo for 1.5 years where I am a Hardware Design Engineer working within the Hardware Team, but I have actually worked in engineering for over 4 years.
I love knowing how things work and enjoy the logical processes which lie within Engineering.
I work with all teams in the business but work closely with the firmware and production teams to make sure our products are fully functional and as the customer would expect.
I work in a team of three and between us we do all the schematic design and testing behind all of the geo products. I work with a lot of external contractors on PCB (Printed Circuit Board) layouts and mechanical design. I also facilitate safety and EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) testing at various external test houses.
I have been heavily involved in new components for geo’s Cosy smart heating device. Our team covers both new product development and updating and changing the current range of products to make sure they are the best they can be.
It’s certainly not just a boy’s club any more, be strong and don’t let anyone dissuade you from following the path if you want to have a career as an engineer. And once you are in there, don’t be afraid to be yourself, if you want to wear pink skirts to work, then do!
