CT clip or LED sensor –  which one is best for me? The LED sensor is more accurate than the CT clip as all it does is count pulses. The CT clip measures current and although pretty accurate all CT have a degree of inaccuracy. You can only use the LED sensor if you have a modern meter with a flashing light on the front (this is easy to check by looking at the front of your electricity meter). If in doubt, go for the CT clip as this can be used whatever type of meter you have.

Connecting the LED sensor

Use the supplied loop & hook sticky pad to attach the LED sensor to the front of the meter. You may need to remove the middle of the sticky pad so as not to obscure the LED on the meter.

Firmly affix the LED sensor to the sticky pad, making sure to align the middle of the sensor over the hole in the pad.

Connecting the sensor to the transmitter

Once you have attached the sensor to the meter (step 1), you need to connect the end of the lead to the transmitter.

Depending on whether you have a CT or LED sensor, the connector will be slightly different, but simply connect it to any of the holes on the bottom of the sensor.

Now remove the back of the transmitter by pressing the button on the back and sliding the cover upwards. Remove the pullout battery tab and then replace the transmitter cover.

Checking the display

As soon as the transmitter battery tab is removed it will start to transmit energy information to your display.

The display will flash the upper part of the screen until it receives a signal from the transmitter. Once you see the dial on the display, everything is connected and working.

How to connect a CT sensor

The CT simply clips to one of the cables that goes in our out of your electricity meter.

Open the side of the clip using the tab, wrap it around one of ‘live’ main cables to the meter and then snap it closed. The ‘live’ cables are usually marked with an ‘L’ and brown in colour. If connected to one of the other cables ‘neutral’ or ‘N’, the readings might be inaccurate or not report anything at all.

You should hear a click when the CT has been closed securely.

If you have a 3 phase electricity meter you will need to repeat this step for all 3 CT sensors (additional pack of 2 CT clips available separately). Make sure you connect the clips to the 3 different live cables, these will typically be labelled L1, L2 and L3.

Connecting the sensor to the transmitter

Installation:

Fitting the sensor is safe, simple and can be done by anybody. Simply take the CT clip sensor and connect to the mains cable going into your meter – the transmitter that the sensor is connected to will automatically start sending data to the display – it’s that simple.
